Appearing at the OPL for a free concert of summertime music, the McCarthy Family features from left, Jim McCarthy, his wife Deirdre and their son Shane, as seen last summer in a Central Square concert.
(Oneida, NY – June 2015) The McCarthy Family, a trio of polished instrumentalists and harmonic vocalists, will start the summer off at Oneida Public Library on Wednesday June 24 at 7 p.m. with a rollicking concert of popular songs and Irish favorites.
The family trio features Jim McCarthy on guitar, his wife Deirdre on harp and concertina and their teenage son Shane on guitar and mandolin. Together they sing three-part harmonies with an Irish lilt.
The McCarthy Family regularly performs in Central New York, including at the New York State Fair last September, the Syracuse Irish Festival, the Golden Harvest Festival at Beaver Lake and several venues in their hometown of Central Square. They performed at the OPL last December for a holiday concert.
Jim McCarthy, a former teacher, also performs thematic presentations in words and original songs for school assemblies. His latest subjects concern combatting bullying and celebrating reading. Deirdre McCarthy, who hails from Limerick, Ireland, also performs solo, specializing in singing traditional Irish music to the accompaniment of harp, concertina, tin whistle and spoons.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, stop by the Oneida Library, 220 Broad St., or call 363-3050.
