(Madison County, NY – June 2015) On Saturday July 4 and Sunday July 5 from 10 am to 5 pm the Lorenzo State Historic Site will host the annual CAVAC Arts and Crafts Show.  More than 100 artisans are featured on the grounds for this popular event. Beginning at 2 pm and continuing every 20 minutes guided tours of Lorenzo’s formal gardens will be offered (weather permitting).  Sponsored by Cazenovia Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.  Admission is free.  For more information call 315-655-9798 or visit www.lorenzony.org.

On Monday July 6 at 6 pm the Utica Landmarks Society will host a “Monday Nite Walk & Talk” at Hotel Street & Western in Utica.  Tour guide Michelle Truett and others will tell the history of this block.  The tour is free and open to the public.  For more information please visit www.uticalandmarks.org or call315-732-7376.

On Tuesday July 7 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm the Madison County Historical Society will be hosting a farmers market at Cottage Lawn.  The Market will feature fresh seasonal produce, pastured meats, cheeses and much more.  Check the historical societies Facebook page for weekly special events including cooking demonstrations, croquet matches on the lawn, special crafters joining the session and much more.  Tours of the museum will be available as well.  For more information please visit www.mchs1900.org or call 315-363-4136.

From Thursday July 9 through Sunday July 12 the Madison County Fairgrounds in Brookfield will host the annual Madison County Fair. Experience all the offerings of a traditional agricultural fair with live animals, agricultural exhibits, a midway, fun contests, pageants, live music, truck and tractor pulls, a demolition derby and more.  For more information please visit www.madisoncountyfairny.com.

On Thursday July 9 at 6 pm the Onondaga Historical Association will host an “Evening at the Museum.”  The Onondaga County Historical Association has collected innumerable stories from Syracuse and Central New York for 150 years, and now you have the opportunity to explore the museum with the night watchman and experience the exhibits in a new way while seeing who only comes out at night.  Reservations are $15 and must be made in advance.  For more information please call 428-1864.

On Sunday July 19 at 2 pm Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse will host a guided walking tour entitled “Lucky Thirteen.”  Sue Greenhagen will lead you on a tour of Section thirteen of the cemetery.   There is no charge for this tour but donations are accepted.  Tours begin at the chapel on the west side of the cemetery.  Tours are rain or shine but not thunder and lightning.  For more information please call Sue Greenhagen at (315) 684-3418.

On Thursday July 30 at 7 pm the Herkimer County Historical Society will host railroad Historian John Taibi.  Taibi will present “Dr. Webb’s Adirondack Railroad,” the story of how Dr. William Seward Webb undertook construction of a railroad from Herkimer through the Western Adirondacks to Valleyfield (near Montreal).  Taibi is the author of multiple books detailing New York’s railroad history and is currently researching a four volume collection of books on the New York Central’s Adirondack Division.  There is no charge for this event.  For more information please visit http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyhchs/ or call 315-866-6413.
