(Whitesboro, NY – July 2015) World War II Veterans from region welcome to participate in anniversary event

U.S. Representative Richard Hanna (R-Barneveld) will host a ceremony to honor local World War II veterans as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of the war.

The ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Monday July 20 at the Whitestown Community Center, One Championship Drive in Whitesboro. The event is open to the public.

“This year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, and it is my hope that we can honor our military veterans, members of the Greatest Generation, and thank them for their sacrifice and service to the United States of America,” Hanna said. “Many of the men and women who fought – and won – in World War II are now in their 90s and we would like to recognize our local vets while there is still time.”

Whitestown American Legion Post 1113 Color Guard will present the colors. Oneida County Undersheriff Robert Swenszkowski will sing the National Anthem. Each World War II veteran will be presented with an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol.

RSVP: Those interested in attending must RSVP to Jason Phelps, Director of Veterans Outreach in Rep. Hanna’s Utica District Office: by phone, 315-724-9740 or by email, jason.phelps@mail.house.gov.
In order to properly recognize the World War II veterans at the ceremony, attendees must RSVP.
