(Oneida, NY – Aug. 2015) A new permanent exhibit has opened at the Oneida Community Mansion House highlighting the commune and the company’s continuous story of industry and idealism.
“Oneida Industries” showcases the Perfectionists’ progression of industries from fruit canning to thread making and carpet bags. They grew to be the largest maker of traps in the U.S. and ultimately became the world’s leading producer of flatware after voting to turn themselves into a company in 1880. They were also the most generous employers around and ensured that all working at Oneida would prosper.
The exhibit highlights some of the ways the Oneida Community and Oneida Ltd. affected the world and contributed to the character of our region. Also illustrated is Oneida’s quality advertising and design.
The new exhibit is curated by OCMH Curator Tony Wonderley and designed by Ted Anderson of The Exhibition Alliance.
The Oneida Community Mansion House is located at 170 Kenwood Ave., Oneida, NY.
