(Hamilton, NY – Oct. 2015) Did you know that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month?  According to the National Institute of Justice, 25-33 percent of individuals will experience domestic violence during their lifetime.  The FBI also cites domestic violence as the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44; more than auto accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.

Their statistics also reveal that boys who are victims of, or witnesses to domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults.

Let’s take time this month to develop our awareness about domestic violence and the movement towards safe and healthy relationships for all individuals and families.

Information about domestic violence awareness, help, and prevention is available on the display table in the adult fiction section of the library throughout October.

Additional information and guidance can be obtained from the Victims of Violence Program through Liberty Resources, Inc. (Madison County’s non-profit partner) at www.victimsofviolence.org, or by calling their 24-hour hotline at 315-366-5000.

October is also celebrated as Fire Prevention Month.  Children’s books about firefighters, fire prevention, and fire safety are currently featured in a display across from the circulation desk.  Please feel free to browse and borrow from all of our book and informational displays.

In observance of Columbus Day, the Library will be closed on Monday, October 12. We will resume our regular hours of operation the following day.

The Library is normally open Monday-Friday, 10am to 7pm, and Saturday, 10am to1pm. Please visit or call the Library (315) 824-3060 during these hours for assistance. The book drop at the front of the building is always available for your convenience.
