(Cazenovia, NY – Oct. 2015) Anyone who would like to learn more about solar opportunities in Central New York is invited to attend a Solarize CNY workshop at the Cazenovia Public Library on October 22nd. The workshop, sponsored by the Madison County Planning Department with support from the Cazenovia League of Women Voters, will provide detailed information about solar energy, tax credits, payback periods, and loans to help with the up-front costs. Free home assessments are provided and all permits and paperwork associated with installing the system are taken care of for the participants.
Last year, the Solarize campaign successfully doubled the amount of residential solar installations in the Syracuse area. Participants saved hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars on the cost of a solar installation through the bulk discount negotiated with a local solar installer. This year, the Solarize CNY program is now available to residents and businesses in Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties.
“It’s very encouraging to see the collaboration between the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board (CNY RPDB) and local organizations throughout Madison County. The Solarize CNY program focuses on technology that can save money and provide clean, efficient and nearly maintenance-free energy for our homes, farms and businesses” said Scott Ingmire of the Madison County Planning Department, a presenter at the October 22nd workshop.
Solarize CNY provides educational workshops, technical assistance, and a pricing structure that offers substantial discounts to participating customers. Solarize customers are able to purchase or lease solar PV systems at below-market prices, thanks to the collective purchasing power of their neighbors. In order to take advantage of the Solarize CNY program, you are asked to enroll for a free no-obligation site assessment by Oct. 31. The Cazenovia event will be the last workshop scheduled in Central New York.
“The solar energy market in New York State and across the country is exploding, and there has never been a better time to go solar,” said Chris Carrick, Energy Program Manager at the CNY RPDB. “We encourage residential and commercial customers to sign up for the Solarize CNY campaign this month while state and federal incentives and tax credits remain in place.”
The Solarize CNY workshop is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the Cazenovia Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.
