County Seal(Madison County, NY – Oct. 2015) The Madison County Health Department’s Flu Clinics will be added to its Immunization clinics.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), more than 98 million doses of the 2015-2016 flu vaccine have been distributed so far. This season’s vaccines have been updated to better match circulating viruses.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months of age or older. As an alternative to the flu shot, the FluMist or nasal spray vaccine is available as a choice for ages 2 years through age 49 years.

October Flu and Immunization Clinics will be held:

October 23 (Friday), 12:30-3:30 pm, Health Department, 138 N. Court St., Bldg. 5, Wampsville

October 26 (Monday), 3:30-7:00 pm, DeRuyter School, 711 Railroad St., DeRuyter

While it’s important for everyone age 6 months and older to get the flu vaccine, it’s especially important for pregnant women, children younger than 5 years, adults 65 and older, and those with chronic health conditions such as cancer, asthma, diabetes, or heart disease to get vaccinated each year because they are more at risk for developing flu-related complications.

“When we think about how easily germs spread, especially among children, then it’s easy to understand why getting vaccinated against the flu is the best way to protect you and your family from flu now until the Spring,” said Cheryl Geiler, Director of Community Health at Madison County Health Department.
