letters to the editor

To the Editor:

(Madison County, NY – Oct. 2015) I’m writing in support of two outstanding candidates for office that will stand for election on Nov. 3, 2015.

Marian Cerio is your top candidate for the County Judge seat.  Please vote for Marian.

In Madison County the County Court Judge presides over a mixed bag of cases but almost 65 percent of the work of that Judge involves cases in the Family Court.

There is no other candidate as well suited and qualified to sit in that seat and to hear those cases that will shape the future of families and children throughout Madison County.

Marian Cerio has made it her life’s task to work in that arena, and has spent the past 30 years protecting the rights of family members and children and applying herself to this most important task with concern and compassion.

She doesn’t represent insurance companies; she is not a prosecutor. She is a zealous advocate for family and children and is ideally suited for this job. Cast your vote for Marian Cerio on Election Day.

I also want to recommend Leo Matzke for Mayor of the City of Oneida.  Leo is a fine gentleman and well respected in his community.  He is a family man; he is an educator and I want you to consider this: he has spent most of his life educating your children to be the fine adults they are now.

If you as residents of the City of Oneida can think of a better way to express your confidence in a person than entrusting your children to him, I would be surprised.

More to the point of this letter, he has spent much of his life in service of the City of Oneida and has exceptional experience for the job. He has served as Mayor for 6 years and Deputy Mayor for 14.

There are four critical tasks for public servants:  deal quickly with current issues, prepare for the future, keep the taxes stable and preserve essential  services.  Leo has been involved in planning and preparing six budgets as your Mayor, he has an excellent record of maintaining steady fiscal responsibility without loss of essential services.

He has worked hard, and successfully to bring businesses and jobs into the community, including Summit Auto, and played a large role on the development of Glenwood Plaza and the Five Corners.

The City is going to need an exceptional and qualified Mayor in the coming term.  The current occupants of the Council have borrowed extensively from the City’s savings in order to meet their day to day obligations and it is near depletion.  It will take a lot of skill and planning to preserve the City you love.

His opponents, who are currently in office, say that it’s time for change, that they have a plan for the future, but the truth is that whatever their plan might now be, it’s a little too late.  Their plan should have been in effect two years ago.
