(Canastota, NY – Nov. 2015) We know that December is a busy time for families. It’s also a great time for family gatherings. Interested in doing a family read aloud for the holidays? Stop in and see us and we can recommend some wonderful books depending on the ages of those “listening”. We also have a nice collection of holiday DVD classics and holiday romance novels! If you are still looking for things to do, here is a sampling of what’s happening at the library in December.
Loreen Collins is our Artist of the Month in December. Loreen describes herself as a “late blooming artist” who uses many mediums including photography, sculpture, printmaking, drawing and painting. She studied at Mohawk Valley Community College in their Fine Arts Department. Loreen’s display is comprised of her paintings in oil and acrylic.
Loreen’s work has appeared in juried student shows at both SUNYIT and MVCC. As well, in November, some of her work appeared in the Kirkland Public Library in Clinton with the Community Arts Guild. An Artist’s Reception for Loreen Collins will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7pm at the library in our Lawson Community Room.
Dr. Seuss’ book, “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” is a classic that makes every Christmas holiday complete. Join us at the library on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7pm with our guest Vince Doty. Doty will bring the story to life for children of all ages. The program will include a Grinch snack and a craft project! Call the library at 697-7030 to reserve your space!
Can you hear the bell? Hop aboard “The Polar Express” at the Canastota Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 7pm. Vince Doty will be your conductor! Let the story transport you to the North Pole where children can hear the story, make a craft and enjoy a holiday snack! Please reserve your place by calling the library so we know how many to expect for this special event!
Looking for a nice Christmas book for the kids? Erin Conley Nelson, who is originally from Canastota, has written a second book in her Bibletoon Series. Erin will be at the library all day on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. selling this book, titled The Miracle at Bethlehem. She will even autograph your copy. So stop by the library and meet this wonderful author!
The library will be closing at 4pm on Thursday, Dec. 24. We will also be closed on Friday, Dec. 25. The following week, we will close at 4pm on Thursday, Dec. 31 and we will be closed for New Year’s Day on Jan. 1. Watch the mail for our Newsletter during the first week of January.
