Caz library(Cazenovia, NY – Dec. 2015) The following programs will be held at the Cazenovia Public Library.

Lego My Library: Monday, Jan. 11 at 3:30 pm in the Community Room

Jenna Wright-Martin invites children ages 3 and older and their families to the popular LEGO My Library program.  Using the Library’s collection of LEGO and Duplo blocks, children and their families will have the opportunity to build and create something spectacular.

The Library is a place for discovery and imagination, and this building program offers children the experience of making their imaginative musings come to life.  By introducing them to these hands-on experiences with science and math, children not only learn how to build different structures but also how to make them stronger and taller

Cazenovia Readers Book Club: Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 pm in the Story Garden.  Books are available at the circulation desk.

The January selection The Invention of Wings is Sue Monk Kidd writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts.  Here, Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women. Inspired by the historical figure of Sarah Grimke, Kidd goes beyond the record to flesh out the rich interior lives of all of her characters, both real and invented.  This exquisitely written novel looks with unswerving eyes at a devastating wound in American history, through women whose struggles for liberation, empowerment, and expression will leave no reader unmoved. Open Afternoon Book Club: Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 1:00 pm in the Story Garden.  Books are available at the circulation desk.     For January this group has selected Toni Morrison’s God Help the Child, a tale about the way the sufferings of childhood can shape, and misshape, the life of the adult.  At the center of the novel is a young woman who calls herself Bride.  Her stunning blue-black skin is only one element of her beauty.  There is also her boldness, confidence, and success in life.  Even so, Bride is denied the simplest forms of love from her light-skinned mother Sweetness, who takes a lifetime to come to understand that “what you do to children matters. And they might never forget.”  (Amazon.com)

Coloring, Cookies, and Conversation: Thursday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 pm in the Community Room.   Adults are invited to pick up a coloring book and color—while munching on cookies and visiting with friends and neighbors.  It’s an accessible and inexpensive creative outlet that lets you relax, switch off, and focus on something very calming.  It’s the ultimate in anxiety and stress relief. The coloring designs appeal to every interest — from whimsical doodles to circular mandalas, nature scenes, and fantasy worlds—and you can color outside the lines or leave a picture unfinished.  There’s no judgment—just you treating yourself to a new healthy habit where 10 to 20 minutes spent coloring can give you a sense of satisfaction that has a positive ripple effect throughout your day.  Cookies and conversation as well as all supplies are provided.

All events at the Cazenovia Public Library are free and open to the public.
