Author Visit: Janice Flood Nichols, Twin Voices: A Memoir of Polio

Saturday, April 23

2:00 to 4:00 pm

Janice Flood Nichols, author of Twin Voices, a Memoir of Polio will speak at the library on her experiences, writing, and advocacy. When a severe polio epidemic struck DeWitt, NY in 1953, Janice Flood lost her twin brother, Frank Jr. 61 hours after he was admitted to City Hospital. Janice was admitted to the hospital on the evening of his

burial, diagnosed with paralytic polio, but eventually recovered. Twin Voices tells the story of polio, the disease, and the story of one family’s bout with the killer, in multiple “voices.” Today, Janice remains dedicated to the goal of worldwide polio eradication.
