Jim Leach, from the Partnership for Community Development (PCD), shared information on the many town wide initiatives taken by the group. With the help of the PCD the Village of Hamilton was selected to receive a $50,000 grant to complete an Airpark Needs Assessment and Redevelopment Study. Future property owners will be getting help through the PCD’s home ownership center, with grants available to first time homeowners. In February the PCD hosted an alternative energy for agriculture presentation, exploring opportunities for local farmers to participate in local, state, and national cost-saving green energy programs. In addition, the PCD is working with local residents on a recreation plan for the towpath to improve access and trails.

The Town Council is reviewing the Comprehensive Plan, with a working meeting scheduled for March 30. A public meeting to review the revised plan is tentatively scheduled for early May, with another opportunity for community comment. Copies of the Comprehensive Plan will be made available well before the May meeting, with details announced as the date approaches.

Thanks to Lydia Slater for accepting a position and filling the vacancy on The Town Zoning Board of Appeals. We appreciate the work of our board members and their service to our community!

Work on the new Town Office, located at 38 Milford Street, is moving forward. The Town Council voted to retain Bell and Spina, an experienced architectural firm, to assist in the renovations. The town has been awarded two grants from New York State, totaling 150,000 to help pay for this work.

Look for our Town Highway Crew doing maintenance and repairs on Hamilton’s roads. They are taking advantage of the early spring weather as they begin work cutting back road shoulders throughout the town.

The Hamilton Town Council meets on the second Thursday of the month at the Town of Hamilton office at 16 Broad Street in the Village of Hamilton at 6:30 pm. Our next regular meeting is Thursday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. We invite and encourage you to join us. For more information, visit www.townofhamiltonny.org.
