YMCA newThe YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley will join YMCAs across the country to celebrate Healthy Kids Day Saturday, April 30, at the Rome Family Y, 301 W. Bloomfield St., Rome, and the Oneida Family Y, 701 Seneca St., Oneida. The free family event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Families and individuals who join the Y during Healthy Kids Day weekend, Friday, April 29, through Sunday, May 1, will not have to pay the Capitol Improvement Fee, or joiner’s fee.

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, celebrated at nearly 1,300 Ys across the country, aims to get more kids moving and learning, so they can keep up the habit all summer long – a critical out-of-school time for kids’ health. When kids are out of school, they can face hurdles – or gaps – that prevent them from reaching their full potential, related to hunger, water safety, learning, safe spaces to play, and health. Each year, the Y helps over 9 million youth nationwide “hop the gap” and achieve more, providing a safe to place to learn, stay healthy and build friendships.

“We look forward to Healthy Kids Day each April,” said Stephanie Neff, Multi-Team Leader at the Oneida Family Y. “This is a great chance to highlight fun activities at the Y that are aimed at keeping your mind, body and spirit active and healthy all summer.”

Children and their families can participate in events and activities and enter to win raffle prizes, free entry into YMCA youth programming, register for summer day camp and be entered to win a free week. All classes and programs at the Rome Family Y and Oneida Family Y are free and open to the public all day.

Healthy Kids Day at the Oneida Family Y will conclude with the Changing Lives Walk at noon. This annual 5K walk supports the Y’s Changing Lives Campaign which provides financial assistance ($180,000 annually) to those in need for Y programs and memberships. A one-mile option is also available.  Adult registration for the Walk is $20 and includes an event t-shirt. Children 12 and under are FREE.  For more information visit www.ymcatrivalley.org or contact Jennifer Cossette, Director of Development, at 315.363.7788 or jcossette@ymcatrivalley.org.
