letters to the editorTo the Editor:

Five years ago, New York State closed Rogers Environmental Education Center. Friends of Rogers has operated the facility since April 2011, keeping open the buildings, grounds and programs that mean so much to the tens of thousands of visitors who have enjoyed Rogers Center since the late 1960s.

For those who are not financially supporting Friends of Rogers, I pose the following question: What does Rogers Center mean to you?

Friends of Rogers is only able to continue with donations from people like you. We are building steadily on the last five years of success; however, our progress is gradual, and we want to do more.

There’s another reason that your gift makes sense: local management allows us to do things differently than might have been done under state management. We respond to the interests of our public, and our mission reflects the people we serve – and those who sustain us.

Those who love Rogers Center are financially supporting it and deciding its future. They are local companies, adults who first came to Rogers on field trips, children and grandchildren of guests who visited over more than five decades. They are investing in the place they love – and getting a great return on those investments.

The best part of helping is that each of us only has to give a little. Your support can be modest and still have great impact. Did you know that a monthly $6 gift helps fund a program event? You can even make automatic recurring donations to avoid paperwork and constant reminders. Your gift, in any amount, will help us continue to grow.

Please invest in Friends of Rogers now to secure the future of this place we all love.

Sincerely,

Brian McDowell, Friends of Rogers Board of Directors
