girl-scouts-of-americaLocal Girl Scouts are among the more than 600 from the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways that have received the prestigious Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement a girl can earn in Girl Scouting. This award challenges girls to change the world – or at least their corner of it. Girls complete a multi-step take action project that solves a community problem for years into the future and are also eligible for college scholarships. Two local girls are among those that have earned the award this year. They will be recognized at a Young Women of Distinction luncheon following the council’s annual meeting May 21 at Drivers Village in Cicero. Local girls earning the Gold Award are:

Gwen Bowman of Little Falls and Taylor Ketcham of Cazenovia.

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award that girls in sixth through eighth grades can earn. Earning the award gives girls the chance to show that they are leaders who are organized, determined, and dedicated to improving their communities. Girls must complete a take action project that helps to make their community better. This year 10 area girls are earning the Silver Award:

Emily Barrett, Emily Jenner, and Megan Kinsley of Chittenango; Hannah Crofutt, Hannah Libertella, Emily Renwick, Jasmine Renwick, Carly VanAllen, and Jenna VanAllen of Blossvale; and Erin Youngs of North Bay.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award that girls in fourth and fifth grades can earn. Girls work within team to plan and complete take action projects. Through the process girls meet new people and have fun working with other Girl Scouts to make a difference. This year 11 girls are earning the Bronze Award from the following troops: Troop 20100 from Dolgeville and Salisbury Center and Troop 20142 from Canastota.
