Fred “Fritz” Scherz, Jr., Councilman on the Verona Town Board in Verona, announced today that he has selected Kierstyn Kahler (daughter of Jeff & Patty Kahler) of Verona as the winner of the 7th Annual Fred Scherz Sr. Memorial Scholarship for Volunteer Community Service.  Ms. Kahler has volunteered at the Verona Park Program, the Special Olympics, VVS football games, and Madison-Oneida Camp Lookout.  Via LEAD VVS, Ms. Kahler has volunteered at fundraisers, track meets and done PTO babysitting. In addition, Ms. Kahler was involved in clean up after the United Dance Academy’s Dance Recital for National Honor Society.  As winner of this award, Ms. Kahler received a certificate of accomplishment and a check for $250.

“Upon reviewing Ms. Kahler’s application, I was impressed,” said Scherz.  “It’s obvious Kierstyn cares about not only the Verona community, but the surrounding areas as well, as her volunteerism has extended beyond the Town of Verona.  Not only did she help each day at the Verona Park Program, she also attended Driver’s Education class every other day (and passed), so she was obviously quite busy.  Besides being a hard worker with all her volunteerism, she also excelled in the classroom as she has been on the VVS high honor roll since 9th grade. I congratulate Kierstyn for not only winning the scholarship, but for also setting a great example for others to follow.  On a personal note, I know my Dad would’ve been impressed with Ms. Kahler’s on-going volunteer efforts!”
