state-police-seal-150x150On Oct. 3, 2016, at approximately 6:31 am, Troopers responded to a reported three vehicle crash on Interstate 81 north of exit 29n (Rt.481) in the Town of Cicero.

The investigation revealed a 2007 Toyota Scion operated by 16-year-old, Kameron V. Evans of 44 Beechnut Terrace, Whitesboro, was traveling north on I-81 when he drove off the left shoulder of the roadway, through the grassy median, where it turned sideways and into the path of a 2008 Saab SUV.

The operator of the Saab, Robert G. Gardner, 51, was traveling south bound when he noticed a vehicle coming at him and was unable to avoid striking the vehicle on the driver’s side, which caused the Scion to spin into a 2012 Ford Van, operated by Donald R. Patton Jr., 44, from Theresa.

Evans was transported by ambulance to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and is currently listed in critical condition. Sean Jewett, 16, from Whitesboro, was a front seat passenger in the Scion. He was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where he was pronounced deceased.

Gardner was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with multiple leg fractures and is listed in stable condition.

Patton was not injured in the crash.

Interstate 81 southbound was closed for several hours while investigators from the Troop D Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) examined the crash scene.

The investigation continues.
