After their leadership in the spring non-traditional season, a pair of juniors were selected to lead the young Morrisville State women’s volleyball squad in 2017, and to-date Helena Hanes (St. Mary’s, Pa.) and Kimberly Dunkleman’s (Williamsville,) efforts are paying off as the Mustangs sit 10-3 overall midway through the season.

“Lena and Kimmie have worked hard on their personal styles of leadership dedicating themselves to continuing grow the team on and off the court, in every way they can,” said head coach Fred Wallace.

Both Hanes and Dunkleman play key roles for the Mustangs, both serving as setters, while every now and then throwing in their ability to attack.

Hanes returns to the court after garnering first team North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) All-Conference honors a year ago and with her right side hitting ability, to go along with her skill in placing the ball, has led to 112.5 points this season behind 89 kills, to go along with 171 assists and 21 assisted blocks.

The junior is 72 assists away from reaching the 1,000 mark for her career, and would be the second to reach the milestone mark in the Mustang all-time career record books.

Alongside her all-conference accolades, Hanes has earned Dean’s List honors and was named a NEAC Scholar-Athlete.

Dunkleman has thrown up 201 assists to date, reaching the 1,000 career mark on the 23rd against Hamilton College, and becoming the first to reach the milestone in Mustang history.

Dunkleman has also contributed to the defensive side of play, recording 441 digs and 53 total blocks throughout her career; all while earning Dean’s list honors.

“Their objective along with the coaching staff is to always move forward in a positive direction.  Not to be satisfied with where we are (which is a darn good place) but building upon that success always striving to improve.”

Morrisville State currently sits 3-1 within NEAC play and will resume action this weekend at a tri-match hosted by Utica College.
