Crimes of the Heart, set in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, five years after Hurricane Camille, details the lives of Magrath sisters Lenny, Meg and Babe. As the trio reunites to await news of their ailing grandfather as he spends his last hours in the hospital, the sisters have their own troubles. Those dilemmas, grave and yet, somehow, hilarious, are highlighted throughout the play.
Henley was the winner of the 1981 Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. The 1986 namesake movie based on the play received three Academy Award nominations.
