A two-month investigation led to the arrest of Michael J. Merrell, 22, of Carter Road, Canastota. The investigation centered around the sale of psilocybin mushrooms.
Members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit arrested Merrell on the authority of a sealed indictment, handed down by a grand jury, charging him with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell (B felony) and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (B felony).
It is alleged that Merrell on multiple occasions sold a quantity of psilocybin mushrooms to another person. Merrell was remanded to the Madison County Jail.
He is scheduled to appear today in Madison County Court to answer the charges.
