“Art for Kids” Program Series Continues at the Cazenovia Public Library
Children ages 8-14 are invited to join Jenna Wright Martin and Pat Hill at the Cazenovia Public Library for Art for Kids! The next installment of this hands-on program series will be held Friday, March 9 at 1:30 pm in the Community Room. Discussion and activities will focus on the paintings of Grandma Moses.
Anna Mary Robertson Moses (1860-1961)—better known as Grandma Moses—was an American Folk Artist. Completely self-taught, she began her career in the arts at the age of 78. In 1938, an art collector discovered her work and she soon became famous for her nostalgic paintings of rural American life.
The March Art for Kids program will focus on Grandma Moses’ depictions of maple syrup production. After learning about her life and work, participants will create landscape paintings inspired by her unique artistic style. Children will be challenged to include several aspects of farm life in their art: a horizon, a barn, people engaged in everyday activities, animals, a garden, trees, water, fences, farm items, and a representation of the season. Corn bread and maple syrup will be served following the activity. All materials will be provided. Class size is limited to ensure program quality. Call or stop by the Library to reserve a spot.
Participants will qualify for the chance to win a beautiful art set donated by a good friend of the Library. The kit contains 178 pieces, including colored markers, crayons, colored pencils, watercolor cakes, oil pastels, acrylic paint tubes, and much more—all arranged in a beautiful wooden case with adjustable trays.
