Tenney cosponsors Open Internet Preservation Act
Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) co-sponsored H.R. 4682, the Open Internet Preservation Act and issued the below statement about same. She said the bill protects consumers through increased transparency and preservation of a free and open internet. This legislation prohibits the blocking of lawful content, slowing of websites, and requires internet service providers to make their terms of service public.
Restrictive regulations have slowed innovation and decreased investments in innovative technologies, especially the expansion of internet into rural and under-served areas. This lack of investment in rural areas like the 22nd District has prevented businesses from growing and creating jobs. Now that these regulations are off the table, we must work together to find a permanent solution. Importantly, this bill strikes a compromise that benefits consumers. This legislation is a step in the right direction and lays the groundwork for Congress—rather than unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats in Washington—to further improve access and privacy through an open process that protects all consumers. The internet drives growth and innovation, and Congress must enact principles that support a free and open internet.
