BLOTTER: Oneida woman charged with welfare fraud
Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested Marisha A. Smith, 28, of 6950 Creek Road, Oneida, and charged her with offering a false instrument for filing, fourth-degree welfare fraud and fourth-degree grand larceny, all class E felonies.
It is alleged that Smith filed an application for public assistance with the Madison County Department of Social Services knowing that the document contained false information. Smith failed to report that between Sept. 1, 2017, and Jan. 31, 2018, she was employed and earning an income. As a result of this fraudulent act, she received $1,744 in public assistance that she would not have received if she did not falsify the documentation.
Smith was issued an appearance ticket for Lenox Town Court June 5, 2018, to answer the charges.
