Madison County court house time capsule to be opened today at noon
As part of the ongoing ADA renovation of the Madison County Courthouse, the time capsule that was placed in the cornerstone of the Madison County Courthouse Jan. 7, 1909, will be removed today at about 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 16.
A limited number of the press will be able to attend this event due to space and construction limitations. The event will be live streamed through Madison County’s Facebook page at facebook.com/MadisonCountyNewYork/.
Following the removal of the time capsule from the court house at about noon, the time capsule will be opened in the main lobby of the County Office Building (Building No. 4, DMV Building). This event is free and open to the public.
According to newspapers from 1909, the capsule was packed with photos, masonic papers, newspapers, programs, coins and more.
“This is a great opportunity to live and breathe our county’s history from 109 years ago,” said Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz. “I am very excited to be a part of this historic event.”
