Preschoolers and their parents can enjoy putting together simple recipes and eating the tasty and nutritious results. OPL’s Megan Gillander guides the proceedings with the help of nutritionists from Cornell Co-op. Following sessions will be weekly on Mondays at 11:30 a.m. through May 21. Parents should sign up ahead of time at the OPL check-out desk or by calling (315) 363-3050.

Monday Movie Matinee: “The Greatest Showman”
Monday at 1:00 p.m.
The Monday afternoon movie matinee on May 7 features Hugh Jackman as the legendary impresario P. T. Barnum in the exuberant 2017 musical “The Greatest Showman.” The film showing and light refreshments are free.

The Great War Book Discussion
Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
In this Centennial Year of America’s engagement in World War I, the OPL hosts five monthly book discussions led by Prof. Roxanna Pisiak and Tom Murray, focusing on five great fiction and nonfiction works written by actual participants on the Western Front. May’s selection is the best war memoir of all: Robert Graves’ Good-bye To All That. Copies of the book will be available to registered participants. Sign up at the OPL Desk.

Family Super Saturday: Tim Collins in “Speaking Up, Speaking Out”
Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Actor and Playwright Tim Collins returns to the OPL with a new play, “Speaking Up, Speaking Out,” in which themes of friendship, bullying and difficulty in expressing true emotions come alive in a riveting one-man performance. This is a highly appropriate show for elementary-, middle- and high-school students facing social identity issues.

Registered ninth through twelfth graders continue finance expert Dave Ramsey’s mini-course on budgeting, savings, careers and taxes through videos and free personal student workbooks.

“Phantom Thread,” starring Daniel Day Lewis and Vicky Krieps, will be the Monday afternoon movie matinee feature May 21. The 2017 film, set in 1950s London, dramatically portrays a mismatched romance between a haute couture designer and a waitress turned, Cinderella-like, into a supermodel.
