Tenney announces passage of the Water Resources Development Act of 2018
Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) announced the passage of the Water Resources Development Act of 2018. WRDA will strengthen flood protection, improve waterway navigation in the 22nd District, and reform the Army Corps of Engineers. It will empower state and local governments to begin investing their own funds to accelerate permitting and construction activities.
“Lack of local control in states like New York have prohibited local governments from effectively managing our water infrastructure,” Tenney said. “New York has hindered local governments from repairing or cleaning waterways at risk of flooding while failing to invest in sustainable and effective flood mitigation. Meanwhile, families and property owners continue to experience the same devastating damage from flooding year after year.
“The federal government is taking action to upgrade and invest in infrastructure, including flood protection. It’s encouraging to see Congress reinforcing the need for more sustainable and effective flood mitigation programs. Importantly, this bill will provide necessary funding and makes vital improvements to our water resource infrastructure.”
