Mohawk Valley Rotary Club celebrated its annual Changing of the Guard dinner

In a time-honored tradition, the Mohawk Valley Rotary celebrated its Changing-of-the-Guard” ceremony Tuesday, June 26, at the Canal Side Inn.

The traditional gavel exchange took place between now Past President Cindy Bennett and President Elyse Enea Bellows with numerous guests, family members and Rotarians on hand. The Club also recognized its incoming 2018-19 board officers: President Elyse Enea Bellows, President Elect Bonny Brownrigg, VP Francesca Magro, Treasurer Denise Snyder and Secretary Michele Hummel.

Past President Cindy Bennett with club members accomplished many tasks during the year, including organizing a communitywide food drive that benefited the food pantries at Catholic Charities of Ilion and The Salvation Army. The club increased its scholarship award program to include the three schools in the club’s district: Central Valley Academy, Herkimer Highs School and Frankfort High School.

During the dinner, the club presented Rotarian Fred Northup with the very prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award. The award acknowledges people who contribute to The Rotary Foundation or who have contributions made in their name.
