Join RCIL in celebrating community accessibility
The Resource Center for Independent Living invites you to join in a community-wide celebration in honor of the 28th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act Thursday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hanna Park (Utica City Hall).
The event will feature free admission, fully accessible location and fun for the whole family.
Find out what you should know about accessibility while enjoying music, face painting, caricature drawings, Master Magician Andy Wallace and a variety of vendors. There will also be free book giveaways, accessibility demonstrations, and free basic sign language lessons provided by the New York State School for the Deaf.
The ADA was passed in 1990 to help secure the civil rights of people with disabilities and help protect them from being discriminated against because of their disabilities. The ADA also requires that all public places (like schools, restaurants, stores, offices, etc.) be made accessible to all and requires that employers provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities. Organizations like RCIL work with individuals and communities to help ensure the promise of independence and freedom that is envisioned by passage of the ADA.
RCIL is a 501(c)3 certified nonprofit organization offering individuals with disabilities a wide range of independent living and advocacy services so they can live THEIR Lives THEIR Way, at home and in the community as safely and independently as possible. For more information, visit rcil.com.
