State police issue more than 16,500 tickets during Halloween enforcement period

State police today announced that it issued a total of 16,690 tickets statewide during the Halloween enforcement campaign.The special enforcement period began Saturday, Oct. 26, and continued through Nov. 1.

During the campaign, which was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices.

Troopers arrested 266 people for DWI and investigated 1,778 accidents, which resulted in 251 people being injured and three fatalities.

As part of the enforcement, Troopers also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state.
Below is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued.

Speeding: 5,729
Distracted Driving: 448
Seatbelt violations: 475
Move Over Law: 193

During last year’s Halloween enforcement campaign, the State Police issued 9,057 total tickets and arrested 248 people for DWI.
