(Remsen, NY – June 13, 2013) Major Rodney Campbell, Troop Commander, Troop D, announces the arrest of Larry W. Utter, 49, of 2990 Trestle Road in Forestport for second-degree Murder.

Utter is expected to be released shortly from a local hospital where he has been in custody and under observation for a medical condition since Tuesday evening. Upon his release he will be arraigned in a yet undetermined local criminal court and is expected to be remanded without bail.state-police-seal-150x150

The incident in question occurred approximately 4 p.m. on Tuesday June 12. At 4:10 p.m. on that date, Utter contacted 911 to report he had accidentally shot his wife, who is identified as Stacey L. Utter, age 45, of that same address. Stacey Utter was found to be deceased at the scene, and responding uniform troopers immediately placed Larry Utter in custody after making observations and listening to his version of events.

An autopsy was completed yesterday, and it was revealed that Stacey Utter had been struck with two shotgun rounds. The investigation so far has revealed that police had been called to the residence twice in the last year for domestic incidents, which did not result in arrests.

Interviews with family members and others revealed recent domestic tension between the two, and that Stacey Utter had been staying elsewhere in the days before the incident.

The investigation is continuing.

The Oneida County District Attorney’s Office has been involved in the investigation and will be handling the prosecution of the case.
