Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau President David Holder Comments on Governor Cuomo’s Commitment of Nearly $60 Million to Grow New York State Tourism Industry

(Syracuse, NY – May 9, 2013) David Holder, president of the Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau, issued the following statement regarding Governor Cuomo’s announcement that was made at the NYS Tourism Summit yesterday, to launch the state’s largest tourism campaign in decades:

“On behalf of the Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau and our industry partners throughout Onondaga County, I am thrilled to offer my support for Gov. Cuomo’s unprecedented commitment to grow New York’s tourism industry through the investment of nearly $60 million.  The Governor’s tourism campaign is a great opportunity for the entire industry; we haven’t had a spotlight on the state as a travel destination in very long time and we are more than ready to share our stories with the world. Our product is incredible and the more people we tell, the more visitors we’ll welcome not only in Syracuse, but throughout all of the state.

“The Governor’s recognition of the importance of promoting New York State in the international marketplace is fantastic, as that is a vital growth market for the state.  Additionally, this is an excellent opportunity for Upstate New York to infiltrate the Metropolitan New York area with product messaging.

“This announcement highlights that the Governor is taking the necessary steps to position New York for future growth. We stand prepared to work with the Governor to strategically partner with our industry partners to take advantage of this opportunity. As an immediate follow-up to Gov. Cuomo’s announcement, industry professionals from across the state will unite in Syracuse at Destiny USA on Friday, May 17 for a day of strategic planning to develop a plan of action to move the state’s tourism industry forward.”
