(Utica, NY – Sept. 2013) In honor of National Recovery Month, Center for Family Life and Recovery, Inc., will host a free movie showing on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. entitled “The Anonymous People” at SUNYIT’s Student Center (Multipurpose Room) in Utica. This showing is a feature documentary film about the over 23 million Americans living in long-term recovery from alcohol and other drug addictions.

In 2011, 45.6 million people aged 18 or older had a mental illness according to the 2011 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, an annual survey released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). However, only 31.6 million people received mental health services. In addition, 20.6 million people were classified with substance dependence or abuse in 2011, and 3.8 million people aged 12 or older received treatment for a substance use disorder.

National Recovery Month, held annually during the month of September, is a national observance that educates Americans on the fact that addiction treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life. Recovery Month promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible, and also encourages citizens to take action to help expand and improve the availability of effective prevention, treatment and recovery services for those in need.

This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The program will last until 8 p.m.

Refreshments will be provided (i.e., popcorn, soda and water).
