(Madison County, NY – July 2014) On Saturday, Aug. 2, the hamlet of Peterboro will host its fifth annual Emancipation Day.

On Sunday, Aug. 3, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., the Lorenzo State Historic Site will host “a Fashionable Ladies’ Garden Tea.” The Friends of Lorenzo invite all to enjoy an informative and delectable afternoon featuring a “full” English tea in the Ellen Shipman garden.

Savories and sweets, freshly brewed tea, vintage chine, lace and linens seat the scene for this wonderful event. Pre-registration is required; an admission fee will be charged. For more information, visit lorenzony.org or contact Diane Voss at 315.655.3200 ext.100.

On Monday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m., the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host the lecture “Hoggee or Mule Driver?” Presenter Pamela Vittorio will present on history along the canal. At 8:45 p.m., a raffle drawing will take place. For more information, visit clcbm.org.

On Wednesday, Aug. 13, the Erieville/Nelson Heritage Society welcomes local railroad author John Taibi who will present “Roads, Rivers and Rails; the story of the Delaware and Hudson Railroads.” Taibi will give the history of the Delaware & Hudson railroads through pictures and stories. On Thursday, Aug. 14, at 6:30 p.m., the Lorenzo State Historic Site will host Moonlight Medley: Music and Movie at Lorenzo. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and enjoy a summer evening of live music and classic cinema on the front lawn of Lorenzo (weather permitting).

This free summer evening of entertainment is sponsored by The Friends of Lorenzo and the Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce. On Sunday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m., Oakwood Cemetery will host “A Stroll with General Leavenworth.” Scott Peal, Education Associate of the Onondaga Historical Association, brings to life the character Elias W. Leavenworth. This tour will start near start at the chapel on the west side of the cemetery. All tours are free, but donations are accepted. From Monday, Aug. 18, until Friday, Aug. 22, the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host their annual Kids’ Canal Camp. More information to come.

On Sunday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m., the Smithfield Community Center will host Equality Day. More information to come.

On Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host “Tuesday on the Towpath.” This month’s recreational bike ride will feature Canastota Canal Tome Museum.
