Al Stirpe(Aug. 2014) The New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) has announced their endorsement for Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) for reelection in the 127th Assembly District.

NYSUT is an organization of more than 600,000 professionals and retirees from New York’s schools, colleges and health care facilities. Assemblyman Stirpe and NYSUT share a dedication to strengthening the teaching profession and providing kids with a high-quality education.

“Education is the foundation for a successful future; that’s why I’ve always been committed to ensuring our teachers have the tools they need to prepare our children for today’s 21st century economy,” said Assemblyman Stirpe.

“Al Stirpe has been a tremendous supporter of our public schools. He visits local schools regularly talking with and listening to the concerns of parents, teachers and students. He has worked with other lawmakers to secure better funding for our schools and has earned an endorsement from New York State United Teachers. He is a leader in supporting our students from pre-k to post graduate,” said Andrew Pallotta, Executive Vice President of NYSUT.

This year, Assemblyman Stirpe secured increases in school aid for local Central New York schools totaling over $12 million, including over $2.2 million for Foundation Aid and over $8.4 million in restorations to the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA). While this is a good first step, Assemblyman Stirpe understands that more must be done to ensure our kids get the education they deserve. That’s why he is continuing the fight to eliminate the GEA to restore more state funding for local schools.
