(Oneida, NY – Sept. 2014) Railroad historian John Taibi returns to Oneida Public Library on Saturday Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. to continue his story in words and photographs of the Delaware & Hudson’s Susquehanna Division Heritage Trail, this time focusing on the line between Oneonta and Binghamton.

The occasion for his presentation is the publication of his thirteenth book, “Roads, Rivers, and Rails: The Delaware & Hudson’s Susquehanna Division Heritage Trail, Vol. 2, From Oneonta to Binghamton.”

In it, Taibi traces the Delaware and Hudson Railroad between Oneonta and Binghamton alongside the Route 7 corridor as viewed “during a typical Sunday drive.” Volume 1, published in 2012, followed the Heritage Trail from Albany to Oneonta.

“’Roads, Rivers, and Rails, Volume 2’ is a historic story of railroading between Oneonta and Binghamton, New York,” Taibi said, “but it is much more than a book about the railroad as it deals additionally with the environment of communities through which the steel rails and trains operate, including their histories, industries and noteworthy persons.”

Taibi, a popular speaker at the OPL and other venues, is the author of “A Ride through the Countryside: On the Syracuse and Chenango Valley Railroad,” “Remembering the New York, Ontario and Western Railway,” “Rails along the Oriskany,” “The Oneida Railway Company: From Horsecars to Interurbans,” and other works about Central New York railroads.

Volume 2 of “Roads, Rivers, and Rails: The Delaware and Hudson’s Susquehanna Division Heritage Trail” is Taibi’s thirteenth published book and contains 341 pages of text, historical and contemporary photographs, maps and other illustrations.
