canastota-librarypic(Canastota, NY – Jan. 2015) Canastota Canal Town Museum and the Canastota Public Library will again sponsor the annual Canalside Talks at the library. Talks will be held at the Canastota Public Library.

Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. — “Ice Cream.”  Rick Stevens of ZEMS and Joe DiGiorgio of Canal Town will provide a program on ice cream then and now, local businesses of the past, and an inside look at the operation of ZEMS.  The presentation will conclude with an ice cream social.

Monday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. – “The Moving and Still Images at the Turn of the 19th Century.”  Joe DiGiorgio will present a program that will illustrate the influence that the American Biograph Company had in the early movie industry.  The PowerPoint presentation will include actual local photographs from the 1860s to 1910.

Sunday, March 22, at 1:30 p.m. — “Where Have You Gone Joe DiMaggio?”  Dr. William M. Simons, Professor of History, SUNY Oneonta, in collaboration with the NY Council for the Humanities, will speak on ethnic heroes in baseball’s melting pot, including DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, and Hank Greenberg.

Monday, April 27 at 7 p.m. — “Stops Along the Erie Canal.”  Author William R. Farrell will introduce stories, legends, anecdotes, and the history behind some of the most recognized places from Buffalo to Albany, including Canastota as a “canal town.”
