(Rome, NY – Jan. 2016) The Eastern Air Defense Sector will conduct an active shooter exercise between 9 a.m. and noon Thursday, Jan. 7. Part of the Sector’s emergency management program, the exercise will evaluate the unit’s response to a gunman at the facility. The Rome Police Department, Rome Fire Department and the Oneida County Emergency Center will also participate.
All exercise activities will take place within the enclosed facility at EADS and will not involve the public. Businesses located in the Griffiss Business and Technology Park may notice emergency vehicles responding to EADS during the exercise.
The Eastern Air Defense Sector is a North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) headquarters unit located at Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome. Responsible for the air defense of the eastern United States, EADS is composed of New York Air National Guardsmen from the 224th Air Defense Group, a Canadian Forces detachment, Army, Navy and Coast Guard liaison officers, and federal civilians.
