Assemblyman John Salka (R,C,Ref-Brookfield) issued the following statement on the proposed Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act:
This bill is, frankly, dangerous. The sponsors have given no thought to the damage the imposed workday and overtime rates will have on thousands of small family-owned farms across the state. These farms are the backbone of upstate’s economy and they tamper with it at our peril. I’m deeply disappointed to see some downstate Democrats, who may have never set foot on a farm, fiddling with a massively complex system that hundreds of thousands rely on.
