(Oneida, NY – Jan. 2013Victorian Valentine Collection at MCHS) In the tradition of Valentine’s Day, the Madison County Historical Society will be having a make-your-own Victorian Valentine themed workshop for children between the ages of 8-12 and an additional craft workshop for adults on Saturday Feb. 9 at the historical society.

The adult workshop is $15 and will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At the adult craft workshop attendees will be making decorative heart shaped wreaths covered with fabric and lace roses fashioned by hand and hung by a ribbon. A Victorian tea and light fare will also be included.

Adults participating in the workshop are encouraged to bring their own decorative tea cup. If you do not have a tea cup, one will be provided.

The children’s workshop from 1 to 2 p.m. will engage the children as they create 1850s era valentines using stylized written verse, colored inks, vintage images, lace and ribbons.  The fee for the children’s workshop is $5 per child.

Reservations are required for both workshops as space is limited to 12 per session. An adult must accompany each child registered for the children’s workshop.  Both workshops will be held at the historical society. The deadline to register is Feb. 1.
