(Herkimer, NY – Feb. 2013) Herkimer County Community College will participate with activists around the world on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 12:30 p.m. for ONE BILLION RISING, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. This is expected to be the largest day of action in the history of V-Day. Join us in the lobby of the McLaughlin College Center.

Clubs involved at Herkimer include Amnesty International, who will hold a write-a-thon; Women’s Club, Gay/Straight Alliance, Black/Latino Student Union, who will lead the group in dance; Counseling Center and Student Activities; as well as community organizations. There will be an open mic.

On campus for the event will be Domestic Violence Program of Herkimer County, YWCA, Mohawk Valley Sexual Violence Services, Christine Shahin of Faces of Astarte and Herkimer County District Attorney Jeffrey Carpenter.

The program is open to the public free of charge.
