(Syracuse, NY – Feb. 21, 2013) A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross Central New York Chapter provided assistance Thursday afternoon to two adults who were displaced from their homes by separate fires in Syracuse.

Red Cross volunteers provided food, clothing and lodging at an area hotel for an adult male who lost his single-family home at 131 Clover St., Syracuse.

Red Cross volunteers also responded to a fire at a single-family home at 1437 Burnet Ave., Syracuse, and provided food for an adult female who was able to retrieve her clothes and spend the night with friends while she awaited power to be restored to her home.

American Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers are trained to respond to emergencies and disasters such as fires, floods and ice storms and administer to the needs of survivors. Red Cross assistance typically includes temporary shelter, financial assistance for food and replacement clothing, replacement medication, and emotional counseling and support.
