Ontario Man Charged With Assault 

(Verona, NY – March 11, 2013) A Canadian man was arrested and charged with assault early Sunday morning after attacking another patron at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona.

At approximately 3:10 a.m. March 10, Troopers Thomas Watts and Mark Buzzard responded to a complaint of a fight at the Turning Stone Casino on Patrick Road in Verona.

Upon arrival, Oneida Nation Police had detained Christopher M. Heywood, 31, of Nepean, Ontario after he punched a 28 year old Albany man in the face during a brief argument near the Oneida room on the casino property.

The victim suffered cuts to his face and was bleeding. He was treated at the scene by Turning Stone EMS personnel, but refused transport to a hospital.

Heywood was arrested and transported to the SP Oneida barracks, where he was charged with thiord-degree Assault. Heywood was arraigned in front of Town of Verona Justice Randall Smith and remanded to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or bond and was scheduled to reappear in Verona Town Court on March 12.

Albany Man Charged With Drug Possession 

 (Verona, NY – March 11, 2013) Oneida based state police responded to the Turning Stone Casino at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, March 9, to assist the Oneida Nation Police with a drug complaint, resulting in the arrest of an Albany man for possession of a controlled substance.

Trooper Terry Horton was dispatched to assist Nation Police after a small glassine envelope containing white powder was observed falling from the pants pocket of Kason C. Phillips, 32, of Myrtle Avenue, Albany as he walked through the casino

Further investigation revealed that Phillips also possessed additional drugs on his person.

Field tests of the white powder showed it to be MDMA, also referred to as “Ecstasy.”

Phillips was processed at the SP Oneida barracks on the charge of seventh-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and arraigned in front of Town of Verona Justice Randall Smith.

Phillips was remanded to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or bond and is to reappear in Verona Court on March 12.
