(Syracuse, NY – March 2013) All too often, we see veterans struggling to find work after settling back into civilian life. In an effort to help the men and women who have sacrificed so much for us, the United States Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2013 Hiring Our Heroes Veterans job fair for veteran job seekers, active-duty military members, National Guard and reserve members and military spouses. The event will be located at the Thompson Road Armory at 6900 Thompson Road in Syracuse on April 10 and I encourage all those who qualify to attend.

For service men and women, as well as their families, military service demands their full-time commitment, making it difficult to plan for life after their service. That’s why it’s important that our community do its part to help make the transition back into civilian life as seamless and welcome as possible.

Last year, when military facilities across the state were facing cuts in funding, I strongly urged the governor to consider the creation of a task force to examine how best to protect and preserve our vital military bases, particularly the 174th National Guard Fighter Wing, stationed at the Hancock Field Air National Guard Base in Syracuse. In addition to the training that military bases like this provide, they have tremendous effects on our local and regional economy, and it’s vitally important that we protect them.

I’ll always remain committed to our service men and women, and on behalf of Central New York, I thank all those who have served in our military, as well as their spouses and families, for their dedication. Again, I encourage all that qualify to attend the 2013 Hiring Our Heroes Veterans Hiring Fair and please do not hesitate to contact my office if I can be of any help at 449-9536 or robertss@assembly.state.ny.us.
