(Clay, NY – April 2013) Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) announced he will be holding a volunteer fair on Thursday, May 16, to help volunteer organizations connect with people in the community who are looking to give back. The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Great Northern Mall in Clay.
“The volunteer fair will be a great way for members of the community to connect with volunteer groups and find an organization where they can make a difference,” Assemblyman Stirpe said. “And for the volunteer organizations, the fair will be a great opportunity to showcase the fantastic work they do for those in need and will help them recruit new people who are looking to give back.”
Several area groups have already confirmed they will be participating in the event, including:
- The Alzheimer’s Association, CNY Chapter;
- North Syracuse-Liverpool Lions Club;
- Cicero Historical Society;
- SyracuseVAMedicalCenter;
- Francis House;
- Local Fire Departments; and
- Friends of North Syracuse Early Education Program.
“Our community has a rich history of volunteer work, but it’s often difficult to find individuals whose skills and interests match up with the work we do,” Bob Hawes, Voluntary Service Manager of Syracuse VA Medical Center said. “While donations are helpful, volunteers sustain our organization and it’s often more valuable when we uncover someone willing to donate their time. The Volunteer Fair hosted by Assemblyman Stirpe will be a great way to introduce the Syracuse VA Medical Center to a new group of people that can help us continue to help those in need.”
Organizations that would like to participate in the event can contact Assemblyman Stirpe’s office at 452-1115 to reserve a table.
