(Hamilton, NY – May 2013) Colgate Bookstore is hosting a week-long series of children’s events as part of Children’s Book Week, beginning May 13. All events are free and will be held at the Bookstore at 3 Utica St., Hamilton. During the week of May 13, the Bookstore will offer a 20-percent discount on all children’s books.

Thursday, May 16, 11 a.m.: Dangerous Veggies!
Silly stories about eating vegetables will be followed by a carrot craft and a healthy snack. Recommended for ages 3 through 5. Attendees will be entered to win a copy of a free book.
Friday, May 17, 6:30 p.m.: Chenango Valley Scribes Awards Reception
The entire community is invited to the public reading and awards reception for the winners of the Chenango Valley Scribes Young Writers & Illustrators Contest which was open to children from kindergarten through fifth grades. This event is co-sponsored by the Hamilton Public Library and refreshments provided by the Friends of the Hamilton Library.

A Big Guy Took My Ball!
The bookstore will host an Elephant & Piggie children’s book party Tuesday, May 21, at 3:30 p.m. the Class of 2003 Events Room at 3 Utica St. Featuring stories, games, party favors and more, the event is free and open to children of all ages, but mainly designed for ages 4-8.
Bookstore staff will present a dramatic reading of the new book A Big Guy Took My Ball!, the latest in the best-selling and award-winning Elephant & Piggie series by Mo Willems. The story will be followed by party games, a book-themed craft, cake, and party favors for all children who attend. Copies of the book will be available at 20 percent off.
A Big Guy Took My Ball! is the nineteenth book in this series designed for beginning readers. In this story, Piggie is devastated when a big guy takes the toy she found. Gerald the Elephant is big, too…but is he big enough to help his best friend?
