(Watertown, NY – May 15, 2013) The New York State Police in Watertown are investigating the theft and arson of two motor vehicles. These crimes occurred during the weekend of May 11 and 12. There were no injuries in either of the following cases.
Sometime between May 11 at about 3 p.m. and May 12 at about 3 p.m. a 2001 Land Rover, Discovery II, color Green, was stolen from the driveway of Timothy Cryster at 217 Mill St, in the village of Theresa.
On May 13 at about 9:25 a.m. this stolen vehicle was discovered on Lovers lane, approximately 4/10 of a mile north of ST-971V in the Town of Leray. The vehicle had been abandoned and destroyed by fire. There was no Fire Department response to this scene required because the fire had extinguished itself.
Sometime between May 11 at about 10 p.m. and May 12 at about 5:20 a.m., a 2008 Ford, F150, Pickup Truck, color Black, was stolen from the driveway of Robert Smith at 26920 Libby Lane in the Town of Leray. On May 12 at about 5:20 a.m., this stolen vehicle was discovered on the Railroad Bed approximately 1/4 of a mile north of ST-342 in the Town of Leray. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames with the Evans Mills Fire Department responding. This vehicle was also abandoned and destroyed by the fire.
