(Canastota, NY – May 2013) The Village of Canastota, in partnership with the Canastota Canal Town Museum, received a grant in January from the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Commission. The grant was contingent on receiving matching funds. Contributing to the matching funds was Canastota’s VFW Post 600.
The grant, along with matching funds, will enable Canastota to make Canal Street a historic and distinctive place by placing two Canastota Canal scene murals on Peterboro and Main Street and a visitor’s park across from the museum. An Aug. 11 dedication is planned.
Presenting a matching funds check to Canal Town Director Joe DiGeorgio and Canastota Mayor Carla DeShaw is Doug Ginney of Canastota VFW Post 600.
