Angela Marken ASHES(Utica, NY – May 2013) Angela Marken and Mario Colon, two award-winning artists originally from the greater Utica area, bring their works of art to the Utica Public Library Art Gallery for an exclusive showing in this region.

The free art exhibition will be open from June 3 to 28 with a complimentary opening reception on Friday, June 7 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Utica Library Executive Director commented, “We hope everyone will come and experience this fascinating exhibit by two extraordinarily talented artists originally from this area and enjoy the opening reception here at the Utica Public Library.”

Angela K. Marken recently graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a Bachelor of Fine Art and has an Associate of Fine Art from Mohawk Valley Community College.  In her drawings and paintings she utilizes desolate scenery, conglomerate imagery, and figures in various states and levels of costuming to convey the continuous reconstruction of memories recalled from compiled fragments. As a part of this process, she designs and creates the costumes depicted in her images.

Mario A. Colon’s work is narrative in nature and deal with issues of allegory, personal mythology, and character archetypes. He received an Associate of Fine Art from Mohawk Valley Community College and received his Bachelor of Fine Art from SUNY Potsdam.

Marken is a graduate of Clinton High School and her husband Colon is a graduate of Proctor High School. They will be studying for their Masters of Fine Arts at Ferris State University in the fall.
