(Herkimer, NY – June 2013) Herkimer County Community College has named two student-athletes to the Green and Gold Club for May 2013.
Men’s baseball player Brandon Overstreet, Martin County, Fla. finished the 2013 season with a .403 batting average, nine doubles, two triples and two homeruns. Overstreet was named 1st team All-Region and 2nd team All-American. “He is an outstanding catcher and shut down other teams’ running game,” said coach Jason Rathbun. Overstreet graduated in May with an associate in arts degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies.
Women’s softball player Tina Karaqi, Thornwood, NY, was a standout player this year, contributing to the Lady Generals’ 43-2 season record and the softball program’s first National Championship title. Karaqi received the Outstanding Offensive Player award and was recognized as the MVP at the National Tournament, where she had a .833 batting average. She was also named to the Region III All-Tournament team and the Mountain Valley All-Conference team. Karaqi recently completed her freshman year a General Studies major.
HCCC’s Green and Gold Club honors an outstanding male and female athlete each month.
