Funding will provide improved library access for people with disabilities
(Liverpool, NY – June 24, 2013) Assemblymember Sam Roberts (D, WF-Syracuse) announced that the Liverpool Public Library will receive over $7,000 in construction grant funding from the New York State Library. The funding was supported by Assemblymember Roberts in last year’s state budget and will be used to achieve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, allowing better library access for people with disabilities.
“Protecting and enhancing library funding is essential,” Assemblymember Roberts said. “Using that funding to make facilities more accessible for those with disabilities is crucial, and will ensure that all patrons have equal opportunities to take advantage of all the resources that our library has to offer.”
Jean Armour Polly, Director of the Liverpool Public Library, said, “We are grateful that the NYS Public Library Construction Act was renewed. This funding will literally help ‘open doors’ for our patrons. It will bring the library into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act door hardware requirements and make it easier for patrons to use their public library.”
As a member of the Assembly Committee on Libraries and Education Technology, Assemblymember Roberts has worked year after year to ensure that libraries across New York State have access to the funding they deserve. In years past, he has toured libraries in his district and directly witnessed the positive impact they have on our families.
“Libraries across Central New York, including the Liverpool Public Library, provide invaluable resources to our local communities,” Assemblymember Roberts said. “By offering educational technology that assists in job training and enhances children’s creativity, public libraries serve as informational and recreational outlets for people of all ages.”
